Pool Hygiene

We work hard to ensure the Pool Water is of the highest quality

to ensure that your swim is as pleasant as possible.

How we do this:

We regularly test the water in the pool to ensure that there are the right levels of chlorine to efficiently disinfect the water

We replace water in the pool regularly in line with industry guidance (this is 30litres of water per individual use).

We monitor a range of other factors in the water (including levels of calcium and other salts that dissolve in water) to both protect the pool itself and you as users.

Why?

When pool water makes your eyes sting a little after a swim, this is NOT due to too much chlorine in the pool – this is an effect caused by the chlorine that we add, reacting with other chemicals that come into the pool via the people using it.

How you can help:

Any chemicals brought into the pool by a swimmer will react with the disinfectant. You can have a MASSIVE effect on the level of these chemicals by:

Using the toilet (and ensuring children have used the toilet) before getting in the pool. Urea will react with chlorine to create ammonia which is a leading cause of stinging eyes. Young children should wear swim nappies to reduce the risk of contamination.

Thoroughly showering before entering the pool: No matter how clean you are, washing thoroughly before swimming removes any sweat, deodorants, perfumes and makeup – all of which will react with the chlorine in the pool.

Tying up long hair or wearing a swimming hat. This reduces the number of individual hairs which break free and remain suspended in the pool water.

Not coming onto poolside in outdoor shoes – the contaminants on the bottom of your shoe will make their way into the pool via swimmers feet and add to the chemical load of the pool.
